
Chunyun 2019: It's that time of year again! China's Lunar New Year travel rush is now underway. Millions of Chinese people head home for the Chinese New Year Spring Festival during "chunyun" -- the annual spring migration.

Harbin Railway Station: A symphony orchestra performs to celebrate the first day of the Spring Festival travel rush at Harbin Railway Station. Close to 3 billion trips are expected to be made during the 2019 Spring Festival travel rush between Jan 21 and March 1. The Lunar New Year falls on February 5 this year.

Robotic thirst quenchers: A 5G service robot serves free bottles of water to travelers at East Railway Station in Hangzhou in China's eastern Zhejiang province on the first day of the Spring Festival travel rush.

Dealing with the rush: According to state-run news organization Xinhua, China launched 10 new railways at the end of 2018, expanding its operational length of high-speed railways to 29,000 kilometers.

Planes, trains and automobiles: According to government officials, 2.46 billion trips will be made by automobile, 413 million by rail and 73 million by air during this year's Lunar New Year travel rush.

Year of the Pig: A pig lantern displayed at the Yu Yuan Garden in Shanghai marks the Lunar New Year, the Year of the Pig, which starts on February 5.
