Paris Philharmonic —
Designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, the Paris Philharmonic has been eight years in the making.

Controversial concert hall —
The new Philharmonic has been dogged by controversies over cost, delays that saw construction going right up to the week before its opening and its location, adjacent to Paris' Periphique beltway.

Impressive venue —
The venue has seating for 2,400 but can be adapted to hold more than 3,000, making it one of the largest venues of its kind in Europe.

Extensive facilities —
In addition to the main performance space, the Philharmonic features a bar, cafe, five public rehearsal rooms, an 1,800-square-meter educational center, and a music museum.

'Starship' building —
The Philharmonic's metallic exterior towers above the low-lying Parisian suburbs that surround it.

Unique acoustics —
Experts have been drafted in from New Zealand and Japan to fine tune the acoustics inside the new venue.
