Online meeting: Sara, left, and Laura, right, met on Twitter back in 2014. Bonding over shared interests, they began exchanging messages and were soon speaking everyday.

Airport meeting: In December 2015, Sara flew to London to meet Laura in person. Here they are at London Heathrow the day Sara's flight landed.

Cross-continental romance: The couple, pictured here on vacation in Iceland, were sure they wanted to be together long-term. The only problem was, they lived on different continents.

A leap of faith: After Sara finished university in May 2016, she traveled to Sydney for a vacation. She booked a return flight but never used it. This selfie was taken the day Laura arrived in Australia.

Seaside proposal: Sara proposed to Laura in early 2017, while the two were on vacation in the beachside town of Port Stephens, north of Sydney in Australia.

Getting married: Here they are on their wedding day.

Wedding day: Laura and Sara got married in April 2021, after delaying their wedding due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Special delivery: Due to the current travel restrictions, Laura's family weren't able to travel from the UK to attend the wedding, so her dad sent these cardboard cutouts instead. They also tuned in via video calls and a wedding livestream, making it a day to remember.

Taking a chance: "The whole experience really showed me the importance of just giving something a go. Even if you don't know how things are going to work out long term, it's always better to give things a try because sometimes they'll work out so much better than you could have ever imagined," Laura tells CNN Travel. Here the couple is pictured at Govetts Leap lookout in Australia's Blue Mountains National Park.
