
Winner announced: The winners have finally been announced for the 2020 Crystal Cabin Awards, which were delayed due to Covid. In the "University" category, the University of Cincinnati came up tops with this "coffee house" style design.

Shortlisted idea: The shortlist included some fascinating concepts for airline cabins of the future, including Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands' seats that convert into bunk-beds, designed for the Flying V jet.

Flexible seating: On the original awards shortlist was this intriguing idea from Engineering company Heinkel Group's "Flex Lounge" concept, which allows airplane passengers to face one another.

Electric jet: Electric jet Alice, designed by Israeli company Eviation Aircraft and Portugal's Almadesign, premiered at the Paris Airshow in 2019. The idea won the "Cabin Concepts" category at the Crystal Cabin Award 2020.

Next generation: Airbus' next generation cabin concept "Airspace Cabin Vision 2020" won in the "Visionary Concepts" category.

Innovative idea: In the "Materials and Components" category, e₂ip technologies, together with the National Research Council of Canada, won with their circuitry concept which can be fitted into an airplane seat and help control seat positions.

Accessible aviation: Nominees in the "Passenger Comfort Hardware" category included Ciara Crawford's ROW1 seat -- an airplane seat that allows a wheelchair to be fitted seamlessly into the row, allowing for a more accessible airplane experience.

Economy seat: Airplane seat designers Safran won three prizes at the Crystal Cabin Awards, including in "Passenger Comfort Hardware" category, for their Modulair S economy seat, pictured.
