Kidepo National Park, in Northern Uganda, is rich with natural resources, thriving wildlife and growing tourist appeal.

Buffaloes are among the many mammals that populate the park.
"The herd can reach over 1,000," notes Phillip Akorongimoe, a guide at Kidepo Valley National Park. He adds that in the valley as a whole, that number can swell to 10,000.

Tourists can explore Kidepo Park on a sunset game drive.

There are up to 700 ostriches roaming Kidepo Park.
"In the wilderness, ostriches roam along the savannah, feeding on plants and pebbles that help them in grinding their food," says Akorongimoe.

In addition to the ostrich, many of the park's other birds, including these White-faced Whistling Ducks, live in the Kidepo Valley.

Avid birdwatchers can also spot white-browed Coucal.

Eurasian Rollers are also among the bird species that live in the Kidepo Valley.

Heavy rains make the Kidepo River flood, but only for a few hours. When the rain stops, it leaves behind a river of sand as wide as 165 feet in some parts.
