Twentieth Century Fox World will open in Dubai in 2018

Rides and attractions will be inspired by movies and TV shows including "Aliens" and "The Simpsons"

Lionsgate have announced "Hunger Games" themed lands in Atlanta and Macau

CNN  —

Where do you go for theme park rides inspired by maritime tragedies, acid-blooded aliens and children fighting to the death in a dystopian future?

Dubai, of course.

The emirate has been revealed as the latest destination for a Twentieth Century Fox World theme park and resort, due to open in 2018.

Rides and attractions will be based on the studio’s hit films and TV shows including “Titanic,” “Aliens,” “Predator” and “Sons of Anarchy,” as well as more family-friendly material such as “Ice Age and “The Simpsons.”

Immersed in the Titanic

Titanic?

Wasn’t that one of the 20th century’s biggest disasters before it became one of its biggest box office hits?

Unlikely material for a theme park ride, perhaps.

Jeffrey Godsick, president of Fox Consumer Products, says in the press release that it’ll be an “immersive experience,” allowing visitors to feel “what it was like to be on the Titanic in an exciting way.”

Better hope they provide life jackets.

Teenage bloodbath

Even more unlikely theme park material is a post-apocalyptic, gladitorial bloodbath.

That hasn’t stopped entertainment company Lionsgate from announcing new “Hunger Games” themed lands for Macau, China, by 2018 and Atlanta, Georgia, by 2019.

The Atlanta franchise will be in Avatron Park, the actual filming location for much of the franchise, making it the ultimate theme park destination for fans.

The Chinese attraction will be part of a 22,000-square-meter indoor “experience center” planned for Macau, with rides based around “The Hunger Games” and five other movie properties.

For those who can’t wait, there will also be a “Hunger Games” themed land as part of Motiongate Dubai, opening in late 2016.

Lionsgate is also rumored to be planning future attractions based on the “Twilight” franchise.

"Avatar" fans should head to Disney's Animal Kingdom, Florida, where a new attraction will open in 2017.

20th Century Fox World, Malaysia

20th Century Fox World in Dubai will feature the world’s first Fox-branded resort, but it’s not the first time Fox has lent its name to a theme park.

That title goes to 20th Century Fox World in Malaysia, which is being constructed in partnership with Resorts World Genting and is due to open in 2017.

It’ll feature about 25 rides based on shows including “Rio,” “Planet of the Apes” and “Night at the Museum”.

The estimated cost of Fox’s Dubai venture hasn’t been revealed, but the New York Times reported that the investment could be more than $850 million.

The new deal with Dubai’s Al Ahli Holding Group also allows for three additional Fox-branded resorts opening in other locations.

Pandora – World of Avatar

What the Dubai and Malaysia resorts won’t feature, however, is anything based on Fox’s most successful film franchise, “Avatar.”

The James Cameron adventure has already been licensed for use in Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

In August, Disney revealed new details about the upcoming “Pandora – World of Avatar” attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Florida, which is expected to open in 2017.

The announcement coincided with the unveiling of Disney’s “largest, single-themed land expansion ever” – the upcoming “Star Wars” parks in Florida and California.

There’s still no completion date announced for this enormous new project, which will allow fans to fly in a Millennium Falcon, drink at a Mos Eisley-style cantina and get stuck in an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

Meanwhile, 2015’s been an epic year for theme park news and it’s not over yet.
