Opening soon: Istanbul's new airport officially opened on October 29, 2018. This image imagines what the airport might look like when it's fully functioning.

Prime location: Istanbul Airport wants to take advantage of Turkey's location on the world map -- with flights departing to everywhere from Shanghai to New York. This picture depicts what the airport's control tower might look like when finished.

Grand scale: It's pretty huge -- the total project area is 76.5 million square meters. It's supposed to have the world's largest terminal under one roof.

Built to grow: The project will open in four phases and the PR team says the airport is "built to grow." Pictured here: the airport prior to the official opening ceremony on October 29, 2018.

Big numbers: The aim is that the airport could see 200,000 or more passengers passing through daily.

Award-winning: The design for Istanbul New Airport won first prize in the "Future projects -- Infrastructure" category at the 2016 World Architectural Festival in Berlin.
