Cyclone Pam recently devastated the island nation of Vanuatu. "As a geographer, one of the greatest experiences of my life was driving across the ash plain of Yasur Volcano," said Thornton.

British Virgin Islands —
"A week on a catamaran in the British Virgin Islands ... all the islands melded together in memory, because location ceased to have any meaning, just for a week," wrote iReporter Donald Barrick.
