Tom McGowan is a Commissioning Editor for CNN’s Global Features team, based at the network’s London bureau.

He leads the features department in London, overseeing a multiplatform team of producers and writers working across sport, business, arts and culture, conservation and sustainability.

Since assuming his current role in 2020, McGowan has overseen Call To Earth, CNN’s flagship environmental initiative which is dedicated to conservation, environmentalism and sustainability and showcases the people and solutions that are protecting the planet.

In 2021, he spearheaded the launch of CNN’s Call to Earth Day, a network-wide special day of action designed to shine a light on the environmental emergencies facing our planet. The annual event sees CNN partner with hundreds of schools and organizations around the world to raise awareness and engage in tangible action.

McGowan has over a decade of experience at CNN, having first joined the network’s sports team where he played a key role in coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics. He later progressed to the role of Senior Producer, leading digital content on a range of sports including Formula One, golf, sailing and rugby.
