Nicole Ridgway is a managing editor for CNN Business. She is a founding editor of the Perspectives section and oversees the team that edits and produces opinion and analysis pieces for the site. She is also a founding editor of the Success section, which creates and publishes enterprise and feature stories on leadership, careers, diversity in the workplace, financial empowerment and other topics.
Prior to her current role, Ridgway was a senior editor of the Real Economy team, which focused on economic policy and how it impacts workers, businesses and communities. Her team, which launched in the midst of the 2016 presidential elections, dug into the implications of major policy issues such as the effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act and how immigration policy during the first 100 days of the Trump administration was impacting students and workers, especially in the health care, farming and manufacturing sectors. In 2014, Ridgway launched American Opportunity, a multi-platform editorial initiative involving digital, video and TV that shined a light on the shrinking middle class and the country's growing wealth gap. As part of this effort, Ridgway helped launch a live event series with CNN anchor Poppy Harlow featuring discussions with business leaders that included Ursula Burns, Melinda Gates and Howard Schultz about solutions for closing the opportunity gap for women and people of color. That same year, Ridgway also helped launch an investigative reporting team, which went on to produce several award-winning multi-platform investigations. One of those investigations resulted in the uncovering of a global psychic scam that stole hundreds of millions of dollars from the elderly and other vulnerable victims. Another led to proposed legislation that aimed to curb the usurious practices of government debt collectors.
Before joining CNN in 2011, Ridgway was a senior features editor at AOL's Money and Finance and executive editor of its personal finance site, overseeing a team of nearly 40 reporters and editors across the US. She had also served as deputy editor of SmartMoney.com and deputy chief of reporters and a senior reporter at Forbes magazine, where she covered technology, entrepreneurs and venture capital.
Ridgway is the author of The Running of the Bulls: Inside the Cutthroat Race from Wharton to Wall Street, published by Gotham Books.
Ridgway is a graduate of Villanova University and a native of Ellicott City, Maryland.
