Derek joined the company in April 2019 and leads ad product strategy and development efforts across WarnerMedia's news properties, focused in on CNN, Great Big Story and CNN Business. He brings more than 15 years of operations, campaign management, and product development experience to this role.
He previously served as the Global Head of Advertising Innovation and Operations for Bloomberg Media Group, overseeing ad product, operations, programmatic, media planning and client marketing. He led a team that created award-winning ad products that connected brands with Bloomberg's audience, included the company's TRIGR ad platform, which gave brands the ability to "trigger" contextually relevant messages tied to movements in the financial markets, and the ad.apt ad solution, which transformed basic assets like headlines and videos into ads tailored to viewers' browsing behaviors cross-screen. Derek served as an inventor of Bloomberg's patent-pending technology Interlink designed to render ads on linear television from a digital ad server. Before Bloomberg, he cut his teeth at Time Inc., where he spent nearly 10 years helping to build the company's ad operations from the ground up.
In 2018, Derek was named a Folio: 100 honoree for innovation in media. Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, Derek now lives in Bloomfield with his wife, three children and more than 100 pairs of sneakers.
