Alex MacCallum is Head of Product and General Manager of CNN+ for CNN Worldwide, where she oversees product for the core CNN Digital business, CNN Audio and CNN Underscored, in addition to serving as the general manager of CNN+, with oversight of product development, customer acquisition and marketing, strategy and growth and revenue operations.
MacCallum is an experienced product, business and media executive who joined CNN after eight years at The New York Times. Most recently, she was Head of Product for Standalone Products, a NYT portfolio that includes Cooking, Games, Wirecutter, Audio and Kids. Before that role, she led the New Products and Ventures team and was responsible for overseeing the Cooking and Games subscription products, both managing product development and their P&Ls.
MacCallum has deep experience in building products that bring world class journalism and storytelling to life. At the Times, she championed a cross-functional product development process that allowed for rapid iteration and the creation of new products and innovation in editorial subscription products.
Before overseeing New Products, MacCallum was the General Manager of New York Times video, overseeing both the editorial and business teams. The video group dramatically grew both viewership and revenue during her tenure.
In 2014, she was the youngest person ever appointed to The New York Times masthead where she established the newsroom's audience team that led social, SEO, community and internal tools. She was the first product leader on NYT Cooking, taking it from 0-1 through launch and early growth.
Alex began her career in media at the Washington Post, and was the first news editor for the Huffington Post. She graduated from Brown University and holds a law degree from U.C. Berkeley. She lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and three sons.
