North Carolina’s primaries will take place on Super Tuesday. In the 2016 general election, Donald Trump won the state with 49.83% of the vote, compared with Hillary Clinton’s 46.17%. Republicans have carried North Carolina in 11 of the last 13 presidential elections (Jimmy Carter won in 1976; Barack Obama in 2008). George W. Bush won the Tar Heel State by more than 12 points in 2004, despite the fact that John Kerry had tapped John Edwards, one of the state’s US senators, as his running mate. North Carolina is one of two states Obama won in 2008 but lost in 2012 (Indiana is the other).
