BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: First up this hour though, the trail of a mail bomber takes a turn. The latest bomb, the 18th in all, discovered overnight in Texas and authorities say it looks like all the others. What do the others look like?

Rusty Dornin tracking that in Omaha, Nebraska, where the FBI is working an apparent change of course. Rusty, what's happening. Good afternoon.

RUSTY DORNIN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Bill, it looks like the one discovered in Amarillo, Texas is similar in design to the others that have been discovered in Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois.

Now you had said 18 devices, we have just learned from a law enforcement official that that number is back down to 17. Now one of the devices found in Nebraska was actually a hoax, but we do not know which one it was. We don't know if it was the one just found in Hastings that was found on Monday afternoon or if it was one of the ones that was found on Sunday. But it looks like you know, the one that was found in Salida, Colorado was also a similar device. It was also discovered with a letter.

Now just to give you an idea, from Hastings, if that was indeed a real device -- (AUDIO GAP) Salida, Colorado, that's 400 miles and it looks like he took a turn southeast another 325 miles down to Amarillo, Texas.

Now as you said, they have to wait really so they can get these devices back to the FBI labs and the ATF and have these guys look at them and really be able to see. You know, they can tell by the shape and design if they look similar but they have to really get them inside labs to determine whether these devices are the same.

Now so far, profilers are saying that they believe that this is one man, a white male, an English speaker, which they can tell from some of the letters, the idioms that uses, the grammar that he uses and that he is traveling alone across country. And Bill, it looks like he's making a lot of tracks at this point.

Law enforcement officials also says, you know, be careful of profiles. They're only a tool. Well I ...

HEMMER: OK. I wasn't sure if you were finished or not Rusty. Hang with me a second here. The Associated Press now reporting out of Lubbock, Texas, FBI issuing an all-points bulletin for a 22-year-old pipe bombing suspect. I know this is fresh news. I don't know if you can offer anything, and if you can't, I certainly don't want to put you on the spot but that's the news we're getting from the AP.

DORNIN: No, that -- I have - actually, we had a few problems getting that press conference there out of Lubbock, Texas so I had not heard that yet. That is not something our searchers have told us yet.

HEMMER: All right, Rusty, thanks. Again, the "AP" reporting that. We'll continue to track that about the possibility of an APB putting out for a 22-year-old in Lubbock, Texas.
