Christopher Lawrence

Christopher Lawrence is a Pentagon correspondent for CNN/U.S. Previously, Lawrence had worked as a correspondent for CNN based out of the network's Los Angeles and Chicago bureaus.

Lawrence has covered a wide range of stories since joining the network in March 2004. Most recently, Lawrence covered the hotly contested Montana Senate race and the search for missing climbers on Mt. Hood and spent six weeks in Israel covering the Israel-Hezbollah conflict. Previously, he covered the Natalee Holloway case in Aruba and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, in which he was part of the only CNN crew in New Orleans immediately following the storm. He also traveled to Iraq where he was embedded with U.S. troops fighting the insurgency in the Sunni Triangle.

Before joining CNN, Lawrence was a correspondent for CBS Newspath, where he covered a variety of issues and events including the Catholic Bishops Conference in Rome and the war in Iraq, where Lawrence reported from Kuwait and Baghdad. Prior to joining CBS, Lawrence served as a consumer/investigative reporter and weekend morning anchor for WXYZ-TV in Detroit. Previously, Lawrence was a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter for WTVH-TV in Syracuse, N.Y., and a general assignment reporter for WDBB-TV in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Lawrence has won several awards and honors for his work, including the Syracuse Press Club Award for Best News Feature in 1996 and an Associated Press Award in 2000 for Best News Feature. Lawrence also received an Emmy nomination in 1999 for Best Spot News.

Lawrence attended the University of Maryland at College Park. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Navy Reserve.
