The Situation Online: 9/11 anniversary, Madeleine McCann
9/11 and the candidates: More than half of presidential candidates have gone online to observe the anniversary of September 11th. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has gone as far as taking down his entire campaign site to remember the tragic day.

McCanns proclaim innocence: Portuguese prosecutors handed over the case of missing four-year old Madeleine McCann to a judge today after her parents Gerry and Kate McCann were named official suspects. In a new blog post, Gerry McCann says he has "absolute confidence" that they will be able to prove they had "absolutely no part" in their daughter's abduction.

Watch "The Situation Room" at 4 PM, 5 PM, and 7 PM ET for these stories and more from Internet reporter Abbi Tatton.

Cafferty: Importance of bin Laden?
WATCH "The Cafferty File": Is gen. fair game?

How big of a threat do you believe Osama bin Laden is?
While slaughtering bin Laden would be a great thing for the morale of this country, and would probably act as a catalyst of closure for many families of 9/11, there would be minimal difference in the war on terror. Just as when Zarqawi was killed, another rodent crawled into his place on the jihadist bureaucracy. The idea needs to be destroyed, not just one of the faces of it.
-Anonymous

Bin Laden himself is not a threat. But his remaining alive does give strength to those wishing to harm us. After he is gone, they will continue to hate us and try to kill us, much as they did before bin Laden became a household name. This does not mean we should relax on trying to hunt him down and terminate him. -Mike, Minnesota

Like Saladin before him, Osama bin Laden will always be revered as one of Islam's greatest heroes. Though a decrepit old man holed up in some desolate location, he represents a God-like icon to millions of Muslims still dreaming about world domination. Until we prove his mere mortality by slaying him, he will remain a living prophet. -Anthony, Cherry Hill, New Jersey

The only people who need to fear him are "cavemen" since that’s where he spends most of his time. Which reminds me of that insurance commercial... How easy is it to create high quality propaganda videos? So easy "cavemen" can do it. -Kenny

Colin Powell says terrorists can't change us, only we can change ourselves. Do you agree?
I wish that the men (and woman) running for president could communicate ideas as clearly as Mr. Powell. I guess it's easier to say something when you're not worried about stepping on the voters' toes. -Bobby, Seattle, Washington

With his short analysis on terrorism, Powell has in effect debunked the "they want to change our way of life" excuse. I'm a Canadian, and I'm worried to tears that, unless something changes, one of the present crop of presidential candidates will win. Now, if the race was between Colin Powell and Al Gore, that might wake people up. -Carlos, Toronto

If that's the case, why didn't Colin Powell tell Congress the same thing before we re-invaded the Middle East? -Robert, Waco, Texas

The words of wisdom of General Powell are more than a breath of fresh air. They are also a painful reminder that one of the few people of integrity and honor in the Bush administration felt compelled to leave that group of Texas thugs when the shadow of their relentless lies to the American people became too much to bear. -Randy, South Carolina
