White House Scandal At A Glance: March 16

Today's developments:

• President Bill Clinton again denied any improper behavior toward Kathleen Willey, the ex-White House aide who accused him of hugging, kissing and groping her during a 1993 visit to the president's office. Clinton said he was "mystified and disappointed" by Willey's description of his behavior during the meeting. Willey gave an interview Sunday to CBS' "60 Minutes."

• The White House launched a counterattack against Willey, releasing a friendly exchange of letters between Clinton and Willey, in which she calls herself Clinton's "No. 1 fan" and tells the president "you've been on my mind so often this week."

• White House Communications Director Ann Lewis said Willey's account does not square with Willey's eagerness to work for the Clinton-Gore re-election effort in 1996. Lewis said Willey told her in 1996 "how much she wanted to be part of the campaign team (and) if it could not be with the campaign, then, perhaps, at the Democratic National Committee, supporting the campaign."

• Clinton's job approval rating has increased to 67 percent over the past week despite Willey's allegations, a new CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll shows. When asked who they tended to believe more, 43 percent of the people surveyed sided with Willey, compared to 40 percent who sided with Clinton.
