Bob Franken serves as CNN's Congressional correspondent. On the Hill, Franken's primary responsibilities include covering the activities of the 104th U.S. House of Representatives.

Franken has also covered the 1992 campaign and the Thomas confirmation hearings for CNN. During the Persian Gulf War, he spent several weeks reporting on military action. Franken began his CNN career in 1986 serving as a general assignment correspondent.

Before joining CNN, Franken worked from 1983 - 1985 in the CBS News Washington, DC bureau as an assignment editor and producer. He spent 1981 - 1983 in Pittsburgh, PA working for NBC and 1970 - 1979 in Cleveland as a reporter/anchor for WJKW-TV. He received an Emmy award for his coverage of the 1978 Cleveland mayoral race.

Franken began his journalism career in Marshfield, WI where he served as local news director for radio station WDLB. Franken attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
