President Joe Biden met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, his first sit-down with an American adversary during his time in office.

The two men had met before, but Wednesday's summit in Switzerland was their first encounter since Biden was elected President. They were expected to discuss a wide range of issues during their talks.

The Putin meeting wrapped up Biden's first international trip as President. The trip kicked off last week with the G7 summit in England, where Biden met with various world leaders and Britain's Queen Elizabeth II. He then traveled to Brussels, Belgium, for a NATO summit on Monday and a US-European Union summit on Tuesday.

A security officer asks the media to step back at the start of Biden's summit with Putin. There was a chaotic scrum of reporters from both countries during the photo op, and the situation got incredibly tense between the two traveling press corps, according to CNN Chief White House Correspondent Kaitlan Collins. Reporters were seen blocking cameras as the two presidents were trying to give their opening remarks to each other. Sitting with the presidents here are US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, left, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
