The first major winter storm of 2021 has dumped heavy snow in the Northeast, with many states seeing a foot or more.

New York's Central Park had more than 17 inches of snow by early Tuesday, which placed the storm in the top 20 snowstorms in the city's recorded history.

The highest totals reported so far have been in the Pennsylvania communities of Nazareth and Ancient Oaks, with 31 inches as of early Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
