Risk of ADHD may increase if expectant mother has autoimmune disorder, study says

(CNN)Women with autoimmune disorders who become pregnant are significantly more likely to have babies that later develop attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, according to a longitudinal study of babies and mothers in Australia.

Common autoimmune disorders include Type 1 diabetes, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's and celiac disease, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis, to name a few.
Expectant moms with autoimmune disorders such as psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis are more at risk of having babies with ADHD, a new study found.
