On Thanksgiving Day, Dr. Joseph Varon comforts a patient in the Covid-19 intensive care unit at the United Memorial Medical Center in Houston. Texas was the first state to pass 1 million coronavirus cases, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. "As I'm going inside my Covid unit I see that this elderly patient is out of his bed and trying to get out of the room and he's crying," Varon said. Varon asked the man why he was crying, and the man said he wanted to be with his wife.
