(CNN) —

At 52, Tim McGraw is looking and feeling better than he ever has.

The country superstar has his daughter in part to thank for that.

In an interview with Men’s Health McGraw said it was 11 years ago when his daughter Gracie saw him when in the film “Four Christmases” and remarked that her dad looked “big on the screen.”

That struck a chord with the singer who had always been athletic in the past, but had gotten up to 215 pounds.

“I got out of it for a while,” McGraw said. “I was in the prime of my career, and I wasn’t capitalizing on it.”

So he gave up burgers, booze and “truck stop food” and began walking in the morning.

Now McGraw is into some hardcore workouts and has a new book titled “Grit & Grace: Train the Mind, Train the Body, Own Your Life.”

He works out with his band before every concert, sometimes leading the training.

McGraw, who is married to fellow country superstar Faith Hill, said he’s gained more than just a physical transformation thanks to his healthier lifestyle.

“This workout is my meditation,” he said. “It frees things up in your head so you can get the trash out for a little while.”
