Maryland’s Republican Governor Larry Hogan said Thursday he supports House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump’s conduct surrounding a July phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart.

“I think we do need an inquiry because we [have] to get to the bottom of it,” Hogan told PBS’ Margaret Hoover on “Firing Line.”

“I don’t think there’s any other way we can get to the facts,” he continued.

Hogan joins a small number of Republicans – including Vermont Governor Phil Scott and Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker – in supporting the impeachment inquiry focused on Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in which Trump asked Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, as well as a later request made to China to begin investigating the Bidens. There is no evidence of wrongdoing by the Bidens.

Most Republicans, especially those on Capitol Hill, have remained silent about the inquiry and many are dodging questions about whether Trump’s calls for a foreign government to investigate his political opponents is appropriate.

Hogan, whose state Hillary Clinton won in 2016 by more than 25 points, did make clear he’s not “ready to say I support impeachment and the removal of the President.”

The governor also expressed concern about the impeachment process in a majority-Democratic House.

“I’m very concerned about, can we have a fair and objective one, and I’m not sure we can [have] that in a Democratic Congress.” Hogan said of impeachment proceedings.
