Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus, known for premium quality phones at lower prices, is debuting a more affordable Android phone.
The company announced on Thursday its latest smartphone, the OnePlus 7T, will retail for $599 — about $70 to $100 less than the larger OnePlus 7 Pro, which was unveiled in May. In contrast, the new iPhone 11 starts at $699. The 7T will be available from T-Mobile and directly from OnePlus.
These are relatively inexpensive prices from top-tier brands. The new iPhone 11 Pro, however, starts at $1099.
The OnePlus 7T, which will debut in stores on October 18, comes in blue and grey. The device, which runs on Android 10 released earlier this month, features three cameras on the back of the phone and a tool that allows for better shots in low light – similar to Apple’s new iPhone 11 and 11 Pro phones.
OnePlus is one of several smartphone companies owned by BBK Electronics, a Chinese company that’s extremely popular in Asia. BBK Electronics recently nabbed the top spot for smartphone sales in India (30%) in the latest quarter that ended in June.
The company has also been making strides in the US. In August, OnePlus and Sprint (S) announced they would be teaming up for the launch of a new 5G smartphone that will run on Sprint (S)’s 5G networks in the US.
