The film “Marriage Story” wastes no time in encouraging viewers to take sides in a relationship, offering dueling trailers of the drama that stars Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson as a seemingly feuding couple.
The vignettes feel like marriage therapy sessions as you hear the actors as Charlie and Nicole voice their respective opinions about the other character over scenes that suggest their relationship is imploding.
“Marriage Story” is written and directed by Noah Baumbach, who said in a statement provided to CNN that the purpose of this release is to “show the relationship through the eyes of both characters. There are many sides to every story, and the movie embraces these different viewpoints in order to find the shared truth.”
The film also stars Laura Dern, Alan Alda, Ray Liotta, Julie Hagerty, Merritt Wever, Azhy Robertson, Wallace Shawn, Martha Kelly and Mark O’Brien. It will be released on Netflix and in theaters this fall.
