Zendaya in HBO's 'Euphoria'
CNN  —

HBO has ordered a second season of its risqué teen drama, “Euphoria.”

The series centers on a group of suburban teens and stars Disney Channel alum Zendaya as an addict fresh out of rehab. It has made headlines for its unflinching displays of nudity, drugs, sex and other things that can keep parents up at night.

“Euphoria” is based on the Israeli series of the same name and created by Sam Levinson.

“We look forward to following these complex characters as their journeys continue through the challenging world they inhabit,” Francesca Orsi, HBO’s executive vice president of original programming, said in a statement provided to CNN.

The series has been compared to other projects that have induced pearl clutching, like the 1995 indie drama “Kids” and the British series “Skins.”

“Euphoria’s” eight-episode first season is currently airing Sundays on HBO.
