Actors Gwyneth Paltrow and Bradley Whitford will host a fundraiser for Pete Buttigieg on May 9 in Los Angeles, according to a Democrat with knowledge of the event.
This would be the most high-profile fundraiser to date for the South Bend, Indiana, mayor and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate.
The event was first reported by Variety.
Paltrow is an award-winning actress and founder and CEO of Goop, a lifestyle content and retail website. Whitford is an award-winning actor, best known for portraying Josh Lyman in the television show “The West Wing,” and a political activist.
Buttigieg will attend another fundraiser in Los Angeles on June 19 at the home of TV producer Ryan Murphy and husband David Miller, along with some of Hollywood’s other prominent gay producers, executives, agents and writers, a Democratic donor in California who was invited to this event confirms to CNN.
The Hollywood Reporter first reported the June 19 fundraiser.
Buttigieg has gathered momentum, with support for the mayor jumping 14 points in New Hampshire, according to a Granite State Poll from the University of New Hampshire released Monday.
He announced earlier this month that his campaign raised more than $7 million in the first quarter of the year, which was more than many of his more well-known opponents in the US Senate had raised.
