Cory Booker crowd
Washington CNN  —

New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker will appear at a CNN town hall next week in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

CNN’s Don Lemon will moderate the March 27 event, which starts at 10 p.m. ET. Booker’s appearance would see him join a growing list of Democratic presidential candidates looking to challenge President Donald Trump to appear on the network and face questions from voters ahead of the 2020 primary contests.

Booker announced his campaign at the beginning of February, joining a wide field of candidates for the Democratic Party’s nomination.

Booker first drew notice as the mayor of Newark, New Jersey. He was sworn into the Senate in 2013 after winning a special election to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg. As a senator in the Trump era, Booker has counted himself among the most vocal critics of the administration within the chamber.

Booker has said he would be “looking to women first” when selecting a running mate, and in office he has been a major proponent of marijuana legalization and criminal justice reform. His personal life recently made headlines as well, with actress Rosario Dawson confirming the two were in a relationship.

A CNN/Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll released earlier this month placed Booker’s support in the first-in-the-nation caucus state at 3%.
