This week, police superintendent Eddie Johnson said Smollett paid two men to stage the attack "because he was dissatisfied with his salary." Smollett's camp has released no statements since he turned himself in, but his attorneys previously promised an "aggressive defense." Smollett, who faces a felony charge of disorderly conduct, was released after posting bail.
