Grande performed on "The Tonight Show"
She shed some tears singing "Natural Woman"
Ariana Grande shed a few tears Thursday as she honored Aretha Franklin.
The “No More Tears Left to Cry” singer performed an emotional rendition of “Natural Woman” with house band The Roots on “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.”
The performance earned her a standing ovation.
Franklin died Thursday due to advanced pancreatic cancer.
There were tributes all over social media and television for the “Queen of Soul,” who put her stamp on the music industry and pop culture.
Grande talked to Fallon about meeting the musical legend.
“I met her a few times,” Grande said. “We sang at the White House and she was so sweet, she was so cute and I was like, ‘How are you a real person?’ It’s an honor to have met her.”
The pop star also shared a photo of herself with Franklin on social media.
Grande also told a story of Franklin wanting her to listen to music by one of her young relatives.
The singer said she asked the legend to “Just text me the MP3 or something.”
“And she was like, ‘Well, I don’t know how to do that so I’m just gonna send it to you,’” Grande said. “And then, like, four months later I got a package with a CD, but it was nice. It was great.”
