  • Meyoung's Portable Projector claims the title of Amazon's No. 1 best-selling video projector.

An excellent projector can easily set back you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.

They're ideal if you're looking to have the device be your sole TV screen or if you consider yourself a true visual aficionado. But if you're like many of us who are OK with settling for a good option, know that there are projectors that will not only take your movie nights to the next level, but will do so on an affordable budget.

One is Meyoung's Portable Projector ($84.99; amazon.com), which claims the title of Amazon's No. 1 Best-Seller in the video projector category.

It's much cheaper than what you find on the higher end of the projector spectrum — it's only $84.99 to be exact. But that being said, it projects an impressive 1080p display for a screen size that can max out at about 150 inches. It also features a built-in speaker, so you can crank up your favorite films or tracks. (Editor's note: if you want full surround sound, we recommend adding a speaker system). The Portable Projector also lives up to its name by weighing only 1.98 pounds, less than many of its competitors, making it ideal for outdoor movie nights. It's a great party companion, especially with summer in full swing.

But what makes Meyoung's device, favored by 138 Amazon customers, is its versatility. Its universal connection ports allow you to connect it with cameras, Blu-ray/DVD players, laptops, video game consoles, desktop computers, USB drives and SD cards, so you can stream seamlessly from a number of devices. Unfortunately, it doesn't automatically operate with smart technology to hookup your devices over a Wi-Fi network. So if you want to try play videos, games, or music from your Android or Apple device, you will have to buy an extra cable for about $20. We recommend Weton's 5-star rated Lightning Digital AV Adapter ($20.99; amazon.com) if you want to make the projector even more functional. And while we're hoping future iterations can turn our iPhones into remote controls with the press of a button, for $85 we can't complain.

So if you're in the market for an affordable projector for your al fresco events, Meyoung's device is a simple choice. The only tough question left is which movies you're going to watch on your new screen. Decisions, decisions.
