Products containing sunflower seeds from a Minnesota-based company are under a voluntary recall in at least 24 states.
The recall stems from concerns about possible listeria contamination, though no illnesses have been directly linked to the products.
Certain products made by Planters, Sunrich Naturals, and Papa John’s Salads and Produce are included in the recall.
Tyson Foods Inc. is recalling approximately 132,520 pounds of fully cooked chicken nugget products that may be contaminated with hard plastic. The items in recall are 5-pound bags of fully cooked panko chicken nuggets with a "Best If Used By" date of July 18, 2017, and case code 2006SDL03 and 2006SDL33, and the 20-pound bulk packages of Spare Time fully cooked nugget-shaped chicken breast pattie fritters with rib meat with a production date of July 18, 2016, and case code 2006SDL03.

Products containing sunflower seeds produced by SunOpta are under a voluntary recall in at least 24 states over concerns about possible listeria contamination.The recall affects Planters and Sunrich Naturals sunflower kernels made between the dates of February 1 and April 21, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.
Pilgrim's Pride is recalling more than 4.5 million pounds of fully cooked chicken products in boxes of whole-grain breaded nuggets, patties, breakfast patties, tenderloins and popcorn-style varieties. They were sold under the Gold Kist Farms, Pierce and Sweet Georgia brands. The U.S. Department of Agriculture warns that it may be contaminated with "extraneous materials."

The company that owns Emerald-brand nuts is recalling 100-calorie packages of roasted and salted cashew halves and pieces. The packages are being recalled "due to the possible presence of small glass pieces," the company said on Friday, April 1. No injuries have been reported, but the recall was issued out of an abundance of caution following a consumer complaint.

Niagara Bottling
Because of evidence of E. coli bacteria at the spring source, Niagara Bottling issued a voluntary recall of spring water produced at its two Pennsylvania plants from June 10 through June 18. There had been no signs of its product being contaminated or reports of consumers falling sick, the company said.

Blue Bell Ice Cream voluntarily recalled all of its products made at all of its facilities, the company said in an April 2015 news release. The products, which included ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and other frozen delights, were potentially contaminated with listeria. Listeria is rare, but it's still the third-ranking cause of death from food poisoning in the United States.

Sabra Dipping Co. recalled 30,000 cases of hummus due to possible contamination with listeria, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said in April 2015. The list of products in the recall included Sabra Classic Hummus 10 oz., Sabra Classic Hummus 30 oz., Sabra Classic Hummus without Garnish 32 oz., Sabra Classic Hummus 17 oz. Six Pack and Hummus Dual Pack Classic/Garlic 23.5 oz.
The potentially-affected sunflower seeds were produced by SunOpta.
The recall affects Planters and Sunrich Naturals sunflower kernels made between the dates of February 1 and April 21, the date when the facility stopped production of the seeds, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said in a release.
Separately, Arizona-based Papa John’s Salad and Produce, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of its Oriental Salad with Sesame Ginger Dressing, with sell-by dates of May 18 through May 25.
The salads are a pre-packaged blend sold in retail grocery stores including Albertson’s, Safeway, Food 4 Less and Bashas’.
The FDA is urging consumers who bought any of these items matching these descriptions to promptly throw them away or return them to the store for a refund.
“SunOpta is committed to ensuring consumer safety and providing quality products and ingredients to customers. The Company has completed its root cause analysis and is working with food safety experts to implement corrective and preventative measures,” the company said in a statement provided to the FDA.
“In an abundance of caution, SunOpta is voluntarily extending the period during which it is recalling a limited number of sunflower kernel products that have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.”
Listeria, also known by its scientific name of Listeria monocytogenes, can sometimes cause a serious infection that affects the gastrointestinal tract.
The infection can cause short-term problems such as a high fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea, headaches, stiffness and nausea.
They can be particularly dangerous for pregnant women, the elderly, children and anyone with a weak immune system due to a chronic condition.
Some infections can cause death.
The CDC estimates there are 1,600 illnesses and 260 U.S. deaths per year due to listeriosis infections.
