The woman was abducted from her home in Jalalabad
The gunmen who kidnapped her were wearing uniforms
There are more questions than answers after armed kidnappers seized an Australian woman at dawn from her home in eastern Afghanistan.
The woman was abducted from her home in Jalalabad about 5 a.m. local time Thursday, according to Ataullah Khogyani, a spokesman for the governor.
The kidnappers were wearing uniforms, said Khogyani.
It’s unclear what kind and so far no one has claimed responsibility.
The woman was part of an organization that worked with women who do embroidery work, Khogyani said.
He did not name the organization.
Australia’s Foreign Affairs Department confirmed the kidnapping. It said consular officials are in close contact with her family, and are working with the Afghan authorities.
Police are working to find the woman, and several suspects have been detained, authorities said.
