This photo, released by Mexico's Jalisco state prosecutor on Monday, December 28, shows Ethan Couch after he was detained in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Couch, 18, was apprehended with his mother in Puerto Vallarta, where authorities said they fled for an alleged probation violation in the United States. Couch was on probation for killing four people in a drunk-driving accident in 2013. At the time, many were outraged that a judge sentenced him to probation instead of jail time, slamming his now-notorious "affluenza" defense. During his trial, a psychologist testified that Couch suffered from "affluenza" -- he was the product of wealthy, privileged parents who never set limits for the boy. Couch's mother, Tonya, is back in the United States and has been charged in Texas with hindering the apprehension of a felon. Couch is still in Mexico. A Mexican immigration official with knowledge of the case said Couch's attorneys had filed a writ to block his deportation to the United States.
