Home-brew delights —
Veteran AP correspondent Steve Hindy first tasted home-brewed beer made by American diplomats when he was posted to the Middle East. This gave him the idea to start his own brewery back in New York.

Leap of faith —
Brooklyn Brewery is renowned for making fine-quality craft beer, but Hindy had no business experience when he founded it.

Quality over quantity —
Hindy's strategy was not to compete with the large makers like Budweiser, but carve out his own niche in fine, flavorful beverages that would match imported beer.

Illustrious legacy —
During the pre-Prohibition-era, Brooklyn had more than 45 breweries and was one of the largest brewing centers in the United States. Today, Brooklyn Brewery is the only brewery in the borough.
