(CNN)The world got its first look at the next "Harry Potter"-inspired franchise on Wednesday.

"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," the first film in a trilogy, is set for release a year from now, and star Eddie Redmayne is ready for his closeup in new photos released in Entertainment Weekly.
Redmayne plays Newt Scamander, the fictional author of the "Fantastic Beasts" textbook used at Hogwarts in the "Harry Potter" books and movies.
Author J.K. Rowling published the book in 2001, and used it as the basis for her screenplay for the films.
Fans were thrilled to finally get an idea of what the movie (and Redmayne as Newt) would look like.
Though not everyone was a fan of Redmayne's casting.
The movie -- from Warner Bros. Pictures, which, like CNN, is owned by Time Warner -- will hit theaters on November 18, 2016.
