Family and friends gather on Friday, August 7 in Seneca, South Carolina, to remember the life of the Zachary Hammond, who was shot to death by a police officer on July 26.

The Seneca Police Department said the officer was conducting a drug investigation and shot Hammond in self-defense.

According to an initial police report, the officer who shot Hammond said the 19-year-old had tried to hit him with his car. The autopsy ruled the death was a homicide. After an independent autopsy, an attorney for the family said the evidence indicated Hammond's car was not moving when he was shot.

Those in attendance at the vigil recalled stories about Hammond and sang songs in remembrance of him. His family is seeking answers about why deadly force was used on him.
