A crane that elevates a platform so people can view a car show collapses
Police: 2 of the 10 sent to the hospital after the collapse had serious injuries
The incident happened at a festival for car aficionados east of Amsterdam
A 48-year-old man died and 10 people – seven of them children – suffered significant injuries after a crane collapsed Saturday at a car show in the Netherlands, police said.
The crane had been one of the main attractions at the festival for classic car aficionados in Oosertwolde, having been used to elevate a platform so visitors could enjoy the view, a press officer with the national police in east Netherlands region explained.
Authorities are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. What they do know is that 10 people were taken to a nearby hospital after the collapse, two of them in serious condition, police said.
An unspecified number of others suffered less serious injuries that didn’t require immediate medical assistance.
The car show is an annual event in Oosertwolde, a Dutch village about 55 miles (90 kilometers) east of Amsterdam
