Cape Town artist Lorraine Loots spends at least an hour each day creating a painting the size of a thumbnail.
Paintings measure between 8 and 30 millimeters.
She could spend up to an hour erasing and rewriting a letter that's over or undersize.
She started painting the images in 2013, employing a "selective attention to detail."
Loots has painted everything from planets to Bill Murray.
The 365 images from 2014 were all related to her native Cape Town.
The feeling of achieving a big goal is what keeps the artist motivated.
The painter has over 170,000 followers on Instagram and her images have sold like hotcakes on Etsy.
After searching for images, she sketches the outline before "hacking away" with brushes and watercolor paint.
All the paintings are done without the obvious aid of a magnifying glass.
This year, she's limiting herself to 100 pieces of artwork.
Loots hopes to use other cities and places around the world for inspiration, starting with Paris.
