Believe it or not, there have been only 12 "Friday the 13th" films. The horror franchise has been prolific but hasn't reached the (un)lucky number 13.
Never has a franchise been more heavily debated and picked apart. "Star Wars" has an original trilogy of films, three prequels, an upcoming sequel trilogy and a planned spinoff, "Star Wars: Rogue One," expected in theaters in December 2016.
Another scary movie franchise that has pumped them out has been the "Halloween" films. There have been 10 in total, including a 2007 reboot directed by rocker Rob Zombie.
There have been 13 "The Land Before Time" films since 1988. The newest in the animated franchise is subtitled "Journey of the Heart" and is due in 2015.
Universal Cartoon Studios
"Pirates of the Caribbean" has an original trilogy as well as a standalone sequel, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," in 2011. "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is set to hit theaters in 2017.
The folks behind the four "American Pie" films have found a comedic recipe that fans love: sex, unrequited love and juvenile humor. "American Pie 5" is said to be coming in 2015.

Some may call the horror franchise "Saw" "torture porn," but it's been popular enough to inspire seven films.
What would the '80s have been without the "Police Academy" movies? The comedies about a group of bumbling cops had seven films in total.
The four "Scream" films have grossed hundreds of millions of dollars. The original movie was one of the highest-grossing slasher films ever.
The story of an aspiring boxer from the tough streets of Philadelphia helped propel "Rocky" to five sequels, including 2006's "Rocky Balboa."
Will we ever get there? Final Destination has had five films about groups of people trying to avoid the Grim Reaper. "Final Destination 5" in 2011 garnered favorable reviews.
