Baga from above: Satellite images show devastation

The top image of the northern Nigerian town of Baga, taken on January 2, 2015, shows thatch roof structures. These have been rebuilt since an attack on Baga in April 2013. The dark color in the bottom image, taken on January 7, 2015, represents burned areas, while the red indicates healthy vegetation.

This image shows more than 620 damaged or destroyed structures, represented by yellow dots, predominantly located in the southern portion of Baga on January 7. Amnesty International says vehicle activity is present along the main road, possibly including an armored vehicle stationed at a road block close to the center of town.
