The Al Noor Tower —
An artist's impression of the Al Noor Tower, which could become the tallest building in Africa. Construction is planned for later this year.

The ambitious building is slated for the picturesque Moroccan city of Casablanca.

Some online observers have pointed out that the building looks similar to the Barad-dur, the tower of Sauron, depicted in the popular Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The building will have 114-stories and rise 540 meters skywards -- a reference to Africa's 54 nations.

Features of the tower are said to include offices, apartments and a seven star hotel.

A definitive date for breaking ground on construction of the tower has still to be settled, its location finalized and full permission of the Moroccan authorities given.
