Its founders say its target demographic is shoppers "who appreciate the details and bigger picture when buying an item." Stephanie Beard, founder of Austin-based brand esby, said working in menswear inspired her to start her own line for women that features structured, classic pieces. "I was really envious of how classic menswear was, but it was not cut for my body," she said.

Gamine Co. describes its selvedge denim dungarees and shirts as "honest workwear for women." There's a waiting list for a pair of Gamine jeans, a collaboration with classic denim maker L.C. King Mfg.

Northern Grade started in 2010 as a menswear market in Minneapolis. Since then, it has expanded to other cities amid growing demand for looks inspired by American heritage brands. "Northern Grade Her" applies the same American-made criteria to womenswear. Brooklyn-based Nativen teams up with artists to make limited edition items like these bandanas.
