If Kansas Sen. Pat Roberts is re-elected by just a handful of votes on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden might be partially at fault.
Biden suggested on Connecticut radio station Tuesday that Roberts’ challenger, independent Senate candidate Greg Orman, may caucus with Democrats if he wins — audio that quickly went viral. Roberts, a Republican, has been working overtime to portray Orman as a closeted Democrat in a conservative leaning state.
The Roberts campaign worked quickly after the Biden remark, clipping the audio and putting it into a get-out-the-vote robocall that hit one million Kansas households before polls closed on Tuesday.
CNN obtained audio of the call from a Republican source.
“This is an urgent voter alert for Kansas voters,” the call says. “Joe Biden admitted that Greg Orman will become a Democrat in the U.S. Senate even though Orman is denying it to Kansas voters. Listen to what Biden has to say in his own words.”
