CNN  —

Two firefighters died Sunday afternoon after battling a blaze at an apartment building in Toledo, Ohio.

Both suffered serious burns, according to Steve Kahle, an investigator for the Lucas County coroner.

The firefighters were transported to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead within five minutes of each other, he said.

Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld, a spokesman for the Toledo Fire Department, identified those killed as Stephen A. Machcinski, 42 and James A. Dickman, 31.

Machcinski was a 16-year-veteran with the department; Dickman joined last year.

Autopsies are scheduled for Monday.
