A suicide car bombing killed at least 25 people and injured 40 others at an outdoor market in northeastern Iraq on Thursday, police said.
The incident took place in al-Sadiya, about 140 kilometers or nearly 87 miles northeast of Baghdad.
The town, located in Diyala province, is ethnically mixed, populated by religious denominations such as Shiites and Sunnis and different ethnic groups, including as Kurds and Turkmen.
Iraq has been engulfed by Sunni-Shiite sectarian tensions and political violence for months. The Thursday attack follows a wave of bombings and shootings across the country Wednesday that left at least 60 people dead.
