A gunman opened fire Wednesday at a federal building in Wheeling, West Virginia, authorities said.
Officers returned fire and killed the shooter, said Wheeling Police Chief R. Shawn Schwertfeger.
The chief identified the suspect as a former police officer.
He did not identify the man by name and declined to talk about a possible motive.
No one else was believed to have suffered serious injuries, the chief said.
