"Of Good Report" is a film noir by South African director Jahmil X.T. Qubeka. It was one of the most talked-about movies at last month's Durban International Film Festival.

The movie stars Mothusi Magano as mentally troubled teacher Parker Sithole, who engages in an illicit affair with one of his pupils.

The film was originally selected to open the 34th Durban International Film Festival, South Africa's biggest cinena event. But the country's film board initially banned the movie because of a scene that it said constituted child pornography.

The festival awarded the director with a new annual prize for Artistic Bravery as an acknowledgment of "the film's achievements in stimulating worldwide debate and highlighting important issues in South African society."

Qubeka says he shot the film in black and white for two reasons. "One because I didn't want to see the blood in terms of violence portrayed," he says. "The other reason is deep down I do harbor desire for the film to be some sort of cult classic."
