Thai sanctuary rescues dogs from cruel trade —
The shelter on the Thai border with Laos is home to hundreds of animals rescued from the cruel and inhumane dog smuggling trade.

These dogs would have been transported in trucks from Thailand into neighbouring Laos, across the Mekong River and driven across to Vietnam where the meat is considered a delicacy.

Sadly many of the rescued animals are found in an extremely poor condition and not expected to survive.

The challenge facing western veterinarian staff flown into assist the sanctuary is the Buddhist religious beliefs of the Thais, which don't allow dogs to be euthanized.
